Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of stepwise monitoring training for each daily task on cleaning skills of individuals with intellectual disabilities. For this purpose, three individuals with intellectual disabilities maintaining work life as part-time production workers after graduating from majoring course of special school were selected as subjects. The experimental environment consisted of spaces used by the subjects for each daily task such as living room and veranda at home, employee lounge at work, and bedroom at home. The experimental design used multiple probe design across subjects as one of single subject research techniques. Stepwise monitoring training for each daily task, an independent variable, was organized into three steps of application and method by classifying daily tasks of the subjects into three types. An instructor performed an intervention procedure by conducting lectures at home and work of the subjects. In the monitoring training step 1, monitoring was done on ecological environment, drawing picture, and sentence statement through task analysis table. In the monitoring training step 2, monitoring activities were linked to pocket notebook data created in the step 1. Also in the monitoring training step 3, final monitoring activities were linked to pocket notebook data created in the step 2. The target behavior of cleaning skills is an ability of the subjects to clean living room at home using a vacuum cleaner and spin mop dry cleaner. As a result of this study, the subjects were found to effectively acquire, maintain and generalize the target behavior through the intervention program. Lastly in this study, implications of functional relationship between independent and dependent variables were discussed and suggested.
